Of Pasadena, a University Professor, died Monday, February 16 at home. A
native of Rhode Island, Dr. Vittimberga graduated from the University of
Rhode Island Summa cum Laude in 1988, with a B.A. in Clinical Psychology.
She was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, and Psi Chi Honor
Societies. She received both a Masters degree in 1991 and a Ph.D. in 1994 in
Clinical Psychology from West Virginia University. She completed a
pre-doctoral Clinical Internship at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the
Kennedy Krieger Institute, and then worked there until 1996 as a faculty
supervisor in the Child and Family Therapy Clinic, and as co-director of the
Communication and Behavior Development Clinic until 1998. In 1998 she became
an Associate Professor at the Charter College of Education at California
State University at Los Angeles in the School Psychology Program of the
Division of Administration and Counseling. Her responsibilities included
teaching courses in behavior theory, individual assessment, and intervention
for severe behavioral problems, supervising graduate students, as well as
private consulting. She was highly regarded by the students and the academic
community and was promoted to Full Professor in 2003. She was a licensed
clinical psychologist in Maryland and in California, and passed the
California State licensing exam with the highest possible score. She was
published in multiple peer-reviewed professional journals and lectured
widely in her field. She was an active participant in service to the
university and the community, serving on the board of the California
Association of Behavior Analysts, the College Committee of Retention,
Promotion, and Tenure, and the Assessment Task Force for National
Accreditation. She leaves her parents, Bruno and Jacklyn Vittimberga of
Kingston, Rhode Island, two sisters, Gwenn Vittimberga of Barrington, Rhode
Island, and Gail Gay of Easton, Connecticut, and one brother, Anthony
Vittimberga of Aliso Viejo, and six nieces and nephews. The funeral will be
held from Pierce Brothers Simone DuBois Mortuary, 1136 East Las Tunas Dr.,
San Gabriel, CA 91776, with calling hours Sunday, February 22, 2004 from 5
to 9 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, February 23, 2004 at 11 AM
at St. Rita Catholic Church, 318 N. Baldwin Ave., Sierra Madre, California.
Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donation may be sent to the
Glenda Vittimberga Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o The Charter College of
Education, Cal State LA, 5151 State University Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90032.
