ALICE PETROSSIAN AND RUBEN ZACARIAS TO BE HONORED
AT CAL STATE L.A. DISTINGUISHED EDUCATOR AWARD DINNER
Los Angeles, October 3, 1995 -- On Thursday, November
16, distinguished educators Alice Petrossian and Ruben
Zacarias will be honored at California State University, Los
Angeles sixth annual Distinguished Educator Award Dinner.
This prestigious event, to be held at the Almansor Court, 700
South Almansor Street in Alhambra, is organized annually by the
Friends of the Charter School of Education to recognize leaders
in the field of education whose lives and careers have made a
difference for students in our public schools.
Each of this year's recipients has a distinguished career in education.
Petrossian is an educational leader and policy maker currently
serving as Director of Special Projects and Intercultural Education
for the Glendale Unified School District. Petrossian was appointed
by Governor Pete Wilson to the California Community College Board
of Governors, where she is presently a member of the executive
committee. Her commitment to serving the needs of troubled, underachieving
and minority youths and their families has become a major goal
in her life. Dr. Zacarias is Deputy Superintendent of Schools
in the Los Angeles Unified School District. He was recently appointed
by President Bill Clinton to the President's Advisory Commission
on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans. He advises the
President and the Secretary of Education on the progress of Hispanic
Americans toward achievement of the National Education Goals and
other standards of educational accomplishments.
The Friends of the School of Education is a support group of alumni,
educators and community members whose principal objectives are
to give scholarship assistance to men and women enrolled in CSLA's
Charter School of Education, as well as to support other activities
of the School. These scholarships assist future educators who
will be teaching and providing educational opportunities for children.
