Luckman Fine Arts Complex
To Mexico, Its People, Legends And Myths,
at Luckman Theatre On October 26
Los Angeles, CA -- October 17, 1996 -- Ballet Folklórico
del Pacífico's 40 dancers and musicians combine intensive
training in classical ballet, modern dance and Mexican folk dance
to provide a wonderful and varied spectacle of color, rhythms
and unfailing energies. They perform Saturday, Oct. 26 at
8 p.m. at Cal State L.A.'s Luckman Theatre.
"We want to bring life to the people, their legends and myths
so that everyone may enjoy the richness that defines Mexico,"
says founders Jose Vences and Adriana Astroga-Gainey.
Their repertoire for the Luckman includes dances from Michoacán,
Nuevo Leon, Oaxaca, Veracruz, Puebla, Guerrero, Chiapas, Jalisco
and a debut of a suite of dances from the state of Morelos.
Ballet Folklórico del Pacífico was founded in January,
1992 with the dual purpose of inspiring multicultural awareness
within the Los Angeles community and fostering an appreciation
for its members' Mexican heritage. The professional quality dance
company presents choreographies which have their foundations in
traditional Mexican folk dances and are combined with colorful
costumes and authentic music to provide audiences with an exciting
tour of Mexico.
Critics have called their performances "unbelievably outstanding,"
"the highlight of the program," and exhibiting a "welcome
style, flair and presence, swirling in gorgeous costumes."

Luckman Theatre, part of the Harriet and Charles Luckman Fine
Arts Complex, is noted for its integrity in bringing innovative
dance, music and theatre to Southern California. The Complex
is located at the Eastern Avenue exit of the I-10 (San Bernardino)
freeway, on the campus of California State University, Los Angeles.
Luckman's beautiful red brick structure houses a performing arts
theatre and fine arts gallery, now in their third season. Luckman
Fine Arts Gallery - free to the public - is open one hour prior
to each theatre performance and Monday through Thursday and Saturday
from noon to 5 p.m.
