Cal State L.A.'s Asian Support Group Hosts its Seventh Annual Scholarship and Awards of Excellence Dinner

What & Who:

Cal State L.A. Asian Support Group presents its Seventh
Annual Scholarship and

Awards of Excellence Dinner in honor of Judy
, city councilmember, City of Monterey Park, and Eui-Young
, professor of Sociology and director for the Korean- American
and Korean Studies at Cal State L.A. The 1997-1998 Asian Support
Group Student Scholarship recipients and the winners of the C.Y.
Lee Creative Writing Contest in Tribute to Joyce Lee will also
be announced during the evening.


Thursday, October 30, 1997. no-host cocktails: 6 p.m.,
dinner program: 7 p.m.

Sam Woo Seafood Restaurant. The restaurant is located on
140 West Valley Boulevard, San Gabriel. Complimentary
self parking is available at the Valley Square.


The 1997 Awards of Excellence will be presented to both Judy Chu
and Eui-Young Yu for having made significant contributions to
the Asian Pacific American community. Past recipients include
community activist Ronald K. Wakabayashi, entrepreneur Lilly Y.
Lee, businessman Andrew J.C. Cherng, actress Nobu McCarthy, community
leader David Ma and pastor Hee Min Park.

Established at Cal State L.A. by noted writer C.Y. Lee, the writing
contest is an opportunity to encourage and promote creative writing
on Asian and Asian American themes. Five prizes will be awarded
this year: a $1,000 cash prize including a staged reading for
the first prize winner, a $500 second prize, a $300 third prize,
and two $100 honorable mention prizes.
