Cuban Specialist in African Music

to Speak at Cal State L.A.

Los Angeles, CA - May 3, 2000 - California State University, Los Angeles Music Department, School of Arts and Letters and Latin American Studies program to present Dr. Olavo Alén Rodriguez, director of the Instituto de Investigacion y Desarollo de la Musica Cubana in La Havana, Cuba. Dr. Ochoa will present a lecture on "Contemporary Trends in Afro-Cuban Music."

Dr. Rodriguez has contributed articles to The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians (England), Diccionario Enciclopedico de la Música Española e Hispanoamericana (Spain) and Musik in Geschicte und Gegenwart-MGG (Germany).

He is also author of the book De lo Afro-Cubano a la Salsa. Dr. Rodriguez is considered the leading authority on Cuban music in the World.
