Joanne Altschuler

Dr. Altschuler is an expert on clinical social work practice and
mental health issues with individuals, families and groups.
Her clinical practice, teaching, publications and research background include the
areas of clinical practice and policy issues concerning paid and unpaid
work and older adults, HIV/AIDS, sexuality and older women,
adult child/aging parent support groups, gender issues and aging, and
female body image, and caregiving. Her honors include the 2002 Extraordinary
BSW/MSW Faculty Award and the 2002 CSULA Distinguished Woman Award.

Dr. Anderson's field of study includes social policy, aging
and history of social welfare. His interests include Afro-American
fathers, social policy in developmental disabilities
and ethnic minority empowerment. Dr. Anderson is a member of the Prevention Commission, South Central Region Center of Developmental
Disabilities and the California Social Welfare Archives Board.
Shirley Better

Dr. Better is a specialist in community organization, social welfare,
and community development. She is an expert on social work, the Black feminist movement, minority communities and role strain and life satisfaction of African-American women. Professor Better developed upper division program classes in institutional racism, which she teaches along with classes on poverty. Other courses Dr. Better teaches including specifically women's issues in social welfare, focusing on the social issues of women of color. In 1973, Dr. Better became the first woman in the history of the City of Los Angeles to be appointed
to the Board of Building and Safety Commissioners. She was elected
president of the Commission in 1974. She is a founder of the National
Association of Black Social Workers. Professor Better chairs
the Metropolitan Region Planning Council of Los Angeles County
United Way. She authored a book entitled Institutional Racism.
Karin A. Elliott Brown

Professor Brown is an expert on health, wellness and social support in
ethnic minority communities, and psychosocial correlates of
interpersonal violence. She has published the following articles:
"The Well: Community-based Health Promotion for African American Women,"
"A risk profile for emergency room trauma victims" and
"Psychosocial correlates of orofacial injury."

Professor Cohen is an expert on child welfare, social welfare policy, homelessness, and social work administration. He has published

Connie Saltz Corley

Dr. Corley's publications have spanned
the fields of geriatrics and gerontology, social work,
rehabilitation, and substance abuse. She has an extensive
background in interdisciplinary education and research, and is one of the
first professionals to complete a certificate program from the Center for
Mind-Body Medicine in Washington, DC. As the editor of Social Work
Response to the White House Conference on Aging, Dr. Corley and
her colleagues have contributed to defining an agenda for social work
leadership in the field of aging. Additionally, she has served as a
board member and past president of the
Association for Gerontology Education
in Social Work, and has been a recipient of numerous grant funds.
Susan Crimmins

A criminologist and a social worker, Dr. Crimmins is an expert in homicide, specifically female and juvenile homicide and the killing of children. Dr. Crimmins also is recognized as an expert in trauma, maltreatment, and substance abuse. She conducts somatic trainings in healing from residual effects of trauma with providers in criminal justice, mental health, substance abuse and school settings—most recently with criminalists at the CSULA Forensic Science Institute. As a clinical social worker, Dr. Crimmins facilitates healing with people whose lives have been impacted by trauma and violence, as she combines complementary medicine approaches with more traditional clinical interventions. Dr. Crimmins is an expert in several modalities of naturalistic healing and is certified as an energy healing practitioner in the State of California.

Dr. Delgado is an expert on multicultural social work practice,
gerontology, geriatrics and Hispanic older adults.
He has given many lectures and published various articles on human
behavior/development throughout life cycle, social work practice
with individuals, families and groups, and faculty development in gerontology.

Professor Rhee is an expert on cross-cultural research with Asian
immigrants in family interactions, mental health, violence abuse,
and aging. She had presented lectures and conducted research on
psychiatric disorders among Korean immigrant elders; domestic
violence among Korean immigrants families; and separation and
divorce among Korean American families.
