Dr. Han specializes in location analysis and population geography. His regional expertise includes China and Southeast Asia. Dr. Han received the California Council for Geographic Education Distinguished Teaching Award in 1978 and Cal State L.A.'s Outstanding Professor Award for 1978-79.

Dr. Kirchner's expertise includes transportation, tropical and plantation agriculture and the geography of Latin America. He is especially interested in rail transport, past and present.
Steve LaDochy

Dr. LaDochy is a climatologist and meteorologist, with special interests in thunderstorm phenomena and synoptic climatology. He also conducts research in air pollution, weather forecasting, lightning and urban climates. An expert on the West Coast climatic phenomenon known as “June Gloom,” his collaborative work with NASA/JPL on the Pacific Ocean’s effect on West Coast climate uses 50 years of data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Center for Environmental Prediction. His work with NASA has also focused on long-term climate prediction using atmospheric and oceanic indicators, such as ENSO and PDO.
Ali Modarres

Dr. Modarres' expertise is in urban geography, immigration, public
policy, and ethnic community development in the U.S., as well as Geographical
Information Systems (GIS). His most recent book, The Racial and
Ethnic Structure of Los Angeles: A Geographic Guide, published by
the Edmund G. "Pat" Brown Institute of Public Affairs at Cal State L.A.,
uses 1990 and 1980 census data to portray changes in the demography
and cultural landscape of L.A. County. (See also Pat Brown Institute)

Stephen Mulherin

Dr. Mulherin specializes in urban geography, schools, housing, GIS (Geographical Information Systems) and cultural landscape. His regional expertise include Anglo-America and Eastern Europe. He is also interested in residential and commercial architecture.

Hengchun Ye

Dr. Ye is a climatologist with specialization in hydroclimatology,
synoptic climatology, and climate change. Her recent research focuses
on regional climate variability and change in high latitude regions.
She has been working on snow accumulation and river
discharges over Siberia and their connections to sea surface
temperatures and regional climate in the middle and low latitudes.
She authored/co-authored 19 peer-reviewed publications in major journals.
Fluent in: Chinese (Mandarin and Wenzhou).
Killian P. H. Ying

Dr. Ying is an expert of medical geography, population geography, and urban geography. His research subspecialties include geography of health care, geography of supply and demand of physicians, geography of medical education (medical schools and Graduate Medical Education), geography of pediatric care, and geography of infant mortality in urban areas. Dr. Ying has served as a policy reviewer to the Department of Health Services, State of California, and as a proposal reviewer to the National Science Foundation on health related grant proposals.
