A pioneer in digital reference technology, Kawakami’s diverse professional background includes service in academic, medical, and public libraries. Mr. Song is an expert in current politics in China; China’s cultural revolution (1966-1976); and human rights and intellectual freedom in China. Among his many books and articles, Song is a coauthor with other librarians of several books and monographs, The Cultural Revolution: A Bibliography, 1966-1996(Harvard-Yenching Library, 1998) and Heterodox Thought during the Cultural Revolution I and II (M.E. Sharpe, 2002). He was selected for the 2004 National 21st Century Librarian Award by Syracuse University’s School of Information Studies.
