Don't Pollute!

Change the Way You Commute
Experts predict If we don’t change the way we commute, by the year
2010, people will spend more than half their commuting time waiting for
delays. That would be 32 minutes, as compared with 6 minutes today. The
Parking & Transportation Services – Commuter Services Office provides
faculty, staff
and students with an extensive Rideshare Program. The
following programs are available to assist you in your commute
to Cal State L.A.
Metrolink
The Cal State L.A. Metrolink
Station is located at the south end of the campus below the MTA busway.
CSULA is the only university in Southern California to have a train station
so close to the campus. The Metrolink line that serves CSULA is the San
Bernardino line, with stations in San Bernardino, Rialto, Fontana, Rancho
Cucamonga, Upland, Montclair, Claremont, Pomona North, Covina, Baldwin Park
and El Monte. Current students may be eligible to receive a 25% discount on
their Metrolink monthly pass or ten-trip tickets. Employees who arrive on
campus before 11:00 am may be eligible to receive discounts on their
Metrolink monthly pass and ten-trip tickets as well.
Bus Lines
There are
close to 20 bus lines that serve the CSULA campus and are
operated by both the Metropolitan Transportation Authority
(Metro) and Foothill Transit. Both local and express bus lines
serve the campus. Employees who begin work before 11:00 am may
be eligible to receive a monthly bus subsidy.
Shuttles
There are several
community-based shuttles that serve the CSULA campus. Currently Alhambra
Community Transit (ACT), East Los Angeles Shuttle (El Sol), Edelman’s
Children’s Court Shuttle and the Monterey Park Shuttle (Spirit), all stop on
the south end of the campus during peak transit periods.
Carpool
Employees, including student employees, who
carpool and arrive at work before 11:00 am, may be eligible to receive free
and preferred parking on campus. Employees who bring children to a licensed
childcare facility within one mile from the campus may be eligible for
carpool parking. Contact Commuter Services for details on the carpool
program and program eligibility. The Commuter Services office also provides match lists to University members who are looking for potential rideshare
partners.
Bike or Walk
Employees who walk or bike to campus are encouraged to sign-up
in the Bicycle/Walker program. Participants in the
Bicycle/Walker program can receive complimentary parking passes
during inclement weather and participate in quarterly drawings
and commuter events.
The Commuter Services office also has bicycle
lockers available for rent for $10 per quarter. This fee is
waived for current students, faculty or staff. Please contact
Commuter Services for bicycle locker availability.
Employee Drop-Off
Employees, who do not drive to the campus but are dropped off by
a non-campus member, may be eligible to receive quarterly
incentives for helping to reduce the pollutants emitted by
vehicles arriving to the campus during the morning peak hours.
Emergency Ride Home
In the event of an
emergency, unplanned overtime, and/or family illness, the emergency ride
home program offers employee participants a guaranteed ride home or to where
their car is parked, at no cost to them.
