University Mandatory Health Insurance
Health insurance is mandatory for all Cal State L.A. students. It is a condition of enrollment at Cal State L.A. A registration hold will be placed on your record for the term immediately after your medical insurance expires.
The following companies have policies specifically for Cal State L.A students.
- Renaissance: Verification of proof of purchase by Insurance Company the next business day.
- Student Resources: Submit proof of purchase to IPS to release hold.
Waiver Requirements
- Private plans must meet the following criteria to satisfy the Cal State L.A.’s minimum insurance requirement. Your plan must:
- Be issued by a US-owned company that is headquartered and operating in the United States;
- Beductible does not exceed $100 per illness or injury;
- Medical benefit is at least $100,000 per condition and the co-payment does not exceed 25%;
- Includes a benefit of $10,000 for medical evacuation and $7,500 for repatriation;
- Not require more than a six-month treatment-free period prior to coverage and must not require more than a six-month waiting period.
- The following insurance plans are not acceptable and do not fulfill the University health insurance requirements:
- Travel insurance of any kind
- Any plan purchased outside of the U.S. and/or from a non-U.S. company, OR
- Reimbursement arrangements or vouchers, including from home governments and consulates in the U.S.
- To request a waiver, please submit copy of the Insurance Policy, Proof of purchase (Insurance Card) and The Petition for Alternate Insurance to IPS.
