The Basics
Bed spaces in our complex are limited and are assigned on a first come first serve basis and prioritized by the date that ALL of the items below have been received in the Housing Services office. When giving consideration for room assignments, a prospective student’s application file is considered to be either “COMPLETE” or “INCOMPLETE”. A student application file is considered Complete when the Housing Services office has received the following:
Housing Services Application – Must be completed and signed. The application is designed to gather general information about you and your living habits. The information about your living habits will assist us in matching you with a roommate. Although the Housing Services office makes no guarantees with respect to roommate compatibility, the office will attempt to match roommates based on the requested information.
Housing Services License Agreement – Must be completed and signed. Please be sure to download the License Agreement for the period that you plan to live on campus housing. The License Agreement is a legally binding document that outlines the Terms and Conditions for living on campus. Your signature on the document, and the signature of a parent or legal guardian if required, indicates that you have read and understand these terms and conditions. Your signature also indicates that you have read and understand the terms outlined in the Payment Schedule as well as the policies and procedures described in the Housing Services Student Guide. In order to be eligible to live on campus, an applicant must meet the following criteria:
- Currently be 18 years of age or will turn 18 years old during the quarter in which he or she shall be a resident.
- Enroll in the required number of academic units as outlined in the License Agreement.
Tuberculosis Verification Form – The CSULA housing complex is a multiple occupancy facility with shared living spaces. Prior to moving onto campus, the university requires that all residents provide proof or a negative tuberculosis test or chest x-ray.
Meningococcal Disease Information Form – Must be completed and signed. Per California state law, every First-Year student to the university needs to be provided with information about meningitis. Completion of this form indicates that you have been made aware of the meningitis disease and informs us of your intentions to receive the meningococcal vaccine.
Payment
The initial payment required to live on campus is indicated in the payment schedules below. The Payment Schedule also includes the due dates and amounts of the required installment payments for the summer quarter or the academic year. The initial payment, which includes your first installment payment, is required before moving into the Housing Services complex. You may make your initial payment utilizing one of several methods. If you choose to pay by Money Order, Personal Check, or Cashiers Check, then simply include the payment when you submit the application materials detailed above. If you choose to pay in cash then you must stop by in person at the Housing Services office to pick up an Invoice and then proceed to the University Cashiers office to make your payment. You may also pay online (Master Card, AMEX, and Diner’s Club) at https://commerce.cashnet.com/csulapay. Once you make your payment online then include a copy of your receipt when you submit your application materials.
Your student application file will be considered COMPLETE on the date that all of the items listed above have been received in the Housing Services office. Completed application files are prioritized by the date received and assigned on a first come first serve basis. So, the earlier you submit your application materials and payment, the better your chances are of acquiring a space in our complex. Making a payment and/or submitting your application materials do not guarantee you a space in the Housing Services complex. Bed space in our complex is limited so it is possible that individuals with completed application files will be placed on a waiting list. Any student application file that is missing any of the items listed above will be considered Incomplete and your application will be pending until all outstanding items have been received.
Student Guide & Single Room Request
Housing Services Student Guide – This document details the Housing Services policies and procedures as well as some of the services provided to on-campus residents. Housing Services strongly encourages all applicants to read this information prior to signing your License agreement.
Single Request Form (SRF) – Housing Services offers a limited number of Single Occupancy bedrooms. Single occupancy means that you are the only person who occupies a bedroom within an apartment. To be considered for single occupancy status, simply complete the SRF and submit it to the Housing Services office. Priority for single occupancy is as follows:
- Disabled Students – Supported by an accommodation request from the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD)
- Graduate Students
- Seniors
- Juniors
- Sophomores
- Freshmen
Within each academic classification, current residents have a higher priority than prospective residents. For example, a graduate student currently living on campus will have a higher priority than a graduate student who has applied to live on campus. As well, a graduate student who has applied to live on campus will have a higher priority than a senior who currently resides on campus.
For prospective students who have applied to live on campus, the SRF should be submitted with your application materials. Submitting a SRF does not guarantee that you will be approved for single occupancy. In order for your SRF to be given full consideration, it needs to be submitted to the Housing Services office by the Application Processing Date indicated on the Payment Schedule. Due to limited space, it is difficult to move into the complex with single occupancy status.
If you currently reside on campus, you should submit your SRF by the Application Processing Date that has been designated for the quarter that you want to be considered for single occupancy. The Application Processing Date can be found on the Payment Schedule applicable to the quarter for consideration. So, if you would like to be considered for single occupancy status in the winter quarter, then you will first need to check the Winter Quarter Payment Schedule as the Application Processing Date will be included on that payment schedule. Your next step will be to submit your SRF by the indicated Application Processing Date.
Due to the high number of Single Request Forms received, any SRF that has been received in the Housing Services office after the Application Processing Date will not be given consideration.
Refund Request
Should you decide not to move onto campus, and would like a refund of the funds that you have paid to the University, you will need to submit a refund request in writing to the Housing Services office. The written request should include the following information:
- Applicant’s Name
- Applicant’s Campus Identification Number
- The year and quarter that you were planning to live on campus
- Address where the refund should be mailed
- Contact Information (Telephone or email
