NEW RESIDENTS CONTINUE TO MOVE IN – There are still several spaces that are open in all of our buildings. The Housing Office still has a waitlist and will continue to place new residents throughout the fall quarter. If you have an open space in your bedroom, please be aware that a new student may be moving in and sometimes with very short notice. Please do not spread out and use these empty spaces. If this prevents a new resident from moving in, you will be charged. Please read the 2012-2013 Student Guide, section #6A at: http://www.calstatela.edu/univ/housing/License_Agreement.php.

MEAL PLAN CHANGES/CLOSED – The License Agreement for both room and meal plan are in effect from the day of check-in. The Housing Office is no longer accepting any requests for changes to or cancellation of the meal plan. For Winter quarter, you may elect to change your meal plan. Cancellations will only be considered if there is a hardship that can be supported by documentation. These requests will be accepted during weeks 8-10.

REQUESTS TO CANCEL HOUSING FOR WINTER QUARTER – Requests to cancel your housing contract for the Winter quarter will be accepted November 1, 2012 through November 7, 2012. Please note the policy regarding cancellation of your housing contract after occupancy (once you have moved in and lived here). Please read the 2012-2013 Student Housing License Agreement, Section D.1: http://www.calstatela.edu/univ/housing/License_Agreement.php

WIFI PROJECT- IMPROVING INTERNET ACCESS AND PERFORMANCE – The installation of equipment to improve internet access has begun. Some of Phase II has been completed and the remainder should be done by tomorrow or Wednesday. On Wednesday, installation will begin in Phase I and should be completed in 2-3 days. By end of this week, residents should find more hot spots and improved performance.

Welcome to Housing Services’ first email Housing Update. Don’t miss out on important deadlines, processes and events! Please take a few minutes each week to read these announcements and reminders. If you forward your Cal State LA emails to a personal service, please check your spam filters and watch for our updates.

GOT MAIL?
If you have not yet received your mail card with your mailbox and combination, please stop by the Housing Office and pick yours up. The mail and packages are piling up! Please check your mailbox for notifications about packages that have been received. We log in all packages prior to notifying you. Bring your campus or personal photo ID in order to receive packages. If you have any issues with your mailbox, the Housing staff will be happy to assist.

FACILITIES DO’S AND DON’TS
Please take some time to read the Cleaning Guide on our website and review your responsibilities for maintaining your apartment. If you have issues that need attention in your apartment, please submit a work order online. We are currently processing and addressing work orders and will prioritize the urgent requests first. Please be patient as we strive to complete all requested work. Helpful hint: Clogged toilet? Don’t flush twice immediately. Allow the first flush to complete its cycle or it may overflow. Give it time and then flush again. If it is still slow or clogged, contact our office or your RA on Duty during after-hours. Submit the work order for your records.

MEAL PLAN CHANGES
The Quarter has begun and the housing and meal plan contract began on September 20, 2012. Cancellations are longer accepted. You may, however, add or increase your meal plan at any time. To decrease your meal plan, you may submit a request at the end of the Fall Quarter to take effect Winter Quarter.

ROOM CHANGES
During the third week of school, the Housing Office will accept requests for room changes. These changes will be based on space availability. If you wish to swap with someone, meaning you and another person simply want to exchange rooms, both of you will need to submit a request. If you wish to change your room but do not have someone to switch with, your requests will be reviewed with other requests and the Housing Office will try to accommodate where possible. Do not switch or move without approval. Requests will be accepted on Monday and Tuesday, October 8th and 9th. Forms will be available online and at the Housing Office.

APARTMENT CONDITION FORMS
If you checked in early or late, you may have been given an Apartment Condition Report (ACR) to complete. Please return this to our office by the end of this week. It is critical that we have these in order to document your arrival and key information.

IS THERE AN EMPTY SPACE IN YOUR BEDROOM?
There are still students that are moving in. Please do not spread out or use the space that is not assigned to you. Preventing a new resident from moving in will result in charges being assessed.

For questions about these and other issues, please contact the Housing Office at Askhousing@cslanet.calstatela.edu or call (323) 343-4800.
