Benefits of On Campus Living

There are numerous benefits to living on campus. The number one aspect is convenience. There is no need to worry about commuting and dealing with traffic--you will already be home. In addition, there are numerous programs and resources at your disposal. Student housing provides laundry facilities, a weight room, game room, and a computer lab. Never mind the inconvenience of finding your own roommates, we'll carefully try to find someone who shares some things in common with you . We provide Resident Assistants to help you deal with the many issues--academic, social, or personal--that can arise while going to college. You will have the opportunity to become involved in various fun and educational programs and activities that help foster a sense of community. These activities help make Housing more than just a place to sleep at night--we want your on-campus experience to be an important piece of your education at Cal State LA.

CSLA Student Housing is one of the most diverse communities in the country. We house people from around the United States as well as around the world. Research shows that students who live on campus are more likely be successful in college and to graduate. One reason for this is that students are living in a community of people who have the same purpose--achieving an education. Students who live in Housing develop skills such as problem solving, communication, and cross cultural awareness. Students who live on campus tend to utilize campus resources more and develop a greater interaction with faculty and staff. Students are able to make friends in their new community that can last a lifetime.

University Residence Council

The University Residence Council (URC) is the student government for residents of Cal State LA Housing. Students can use the URC to address concerns to solve problems; initiate changes to benefit Housing residents; and put together programs to foster a greater sense of community. As a resident of Housing, every on-campus student who comes to meetings is guaranteed a voice and a vote. The URC is also your connection with the rest of the campus and the larger campus student government. If you would like to help to find solutions for the many problems that residents face, such as on-campus parking, fees, Housing policies, facilities, and more, visit a URC meeting and be a part of improving our community. The URC also offers many leadership opportunities for students to gain experience and have an even greater influence on their community. For more information, stop by the Housing Office

Educational Weeks

Cal State LA Residence Life and Housing Services offers more than just a place to sleep. We believe that one of the many advantages of living on campus is the opportunity to live in an environment that is completely dedicated to your learning and growth as a well-rounded individual. Several times throughout each quarter, including Summer, the Residential Life team and the URC work together to provide fun and educational programming for the Housing community. These educational weeks not only allow residents to gain some knowledge in a fun way that is not necessarily offered in the classroom, but also often allows them to celebrate the various diverse groups that make up our community. So far this year's educational weeks have included: African American Heritage, Women's History, Chicano Latino heritage, Asian Pacific American Heritage, and National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness. Do you see a need for an additional educational week? Let your Resident Assistant or the URC know, and we'll work with you to put something together for the community.
