When you live on campus, you sign a license agreement for a duration of time, similar to a lease, so you are not living here month to month. Depending on the agreement you sign, you could be signing a 12 month agreement (Summer and Academic Year), 9 month agreement (Academic Year), 6 month agreement (Winter and Spring) or a 3 month agreement (Spring or Summer).
