It is important that crime victims, especially those for whom their assaults are campus-related, are made aware of their legal rights, options, and the campus and community support services available to them.
As a faculty or staff member or resident assistant/director, you can assist victims in need and help the University meet its legal obligations by encouraging victims to report crimes to law enforcement and providing them with assistance notifying law enforcement (if requested) and information regarding:
- Option to alter their academic and living situations (when available);
- Relevant University policies;
- Procedures for guaranteeing confidentiality;
- Legal reporting requirements;
- Right to pursue civil and criminal prosecution, and disciplinary action; and
- Victim assistance resources.
Information regarding the above issues can be found through the following links:
- 24-Hour Hotlines and Local Services
- Cal State L.A. and Sexual Violence Law
- Cal State L.A. Violence Policies
- Campus Services
- Victims' Rights
If you are a Campus Security Authority you must also notify University Police of the incidents (excluding identifying information) related to you as required by the Clery Act. To find out if you are a Campus Security Authority and what your reporting obligations are click on the Campus Security Authorities link.
