Free Confidential HIV Testing
Free confidential HIV testing is conducted on campus by the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science Mobile HIV Testing Unit (funded by the Office of AIDS Programs and Policy, L.A. County Department of Health Services). Testing is offered two days each quarter on a walk-in, first come-first served basis. It is available for students, faculty, and staff. Wait time is generally 20-40 minutes. Test results are available the following week. Results must be received in person.
The Drew Mobile Unit offers OraSure (oral fluid testing) - no needles!
Click on Events and News for upcoming test dates.
Confidential HIV Testing @ the Student Health Center
Confidential HIV testing is also available at the Student Health Center, Monday – Friday by appointment (call 323-343-3302). The fee for this service is $16 (subject to change). Pretest and posttest counseling are conducted by the Center’s clinical staff or health educators. Blood is drawn by the Student Health Center’s lab personnel. An outside lab processes the test and results are available in approximately 7 days.
Note: Female and male students who are enrolled in the Family PACT program receive free confidential HIV testing (as well as free chlamydia and gonorrhea testing) as one of the covered benefits of the Family PACT program. Click on Family PACT for more information on the program. To apply for Family PACT through the Student Health Center check in at the Reception Desk on the first floor and speak with a screening nurse or go to the Health Promotion and Education Center (room 215) and speak with a health educator.
