Blood Drives
Going to a hospital without blood is like jumping from a plane without a parachute! Give blood...Give life! (American Red Cross)
The Health Promotion and Education Center coordinates on-campus blood drives each quarter. These blood drives are conducted by the American Red Cross and the USC Blood Donor Center.
American Red Cross Blood Drives
Appointments are available for the American Red Cross blood drives 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. on scheduled dates. The bloodmobile will be located in parking lot '4' between the administration and biological sciences buildings. Appointments are preferred. Walk-ins are welcome.
For your convenience there are two ways you can schedule an appointment for the American Red Cross blood drives:
- Go online at GiveLife.org and enter sponsor code 'calstatela' or
- Call the American Red Cross at (800) GIVE-LIFE (800-448-3543).
The next American Red Cross blood drives take place 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.:
- Summer '09: August 11-13
- Fall '09: Schedule pending
- Winter '10: Schedule pending
- Spring '10: Schedule pending
USC Blood Donor Center Blood Drives
Appointments are available for the USC Blood Donor Center blood drives 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. on scheduled dates. The USC bloodmobile will be located in parking lot '4' between the administration and biological sciences buildings. Appointments are preferred. Walk-ins are welcome.

Campus Walk Challenge
Take the Campus Walk Challenge and join us for a brisk (or leisurely) walk around the perimeter of the campus. The 1.5 mile challenge takes place Mondays and Wednesdays and begins at 12 p.m. in Student Health Center Room 213 on:

CPR Training
The Health Promotion and Education Center offers American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver CPR and Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers courses for current Cal State L.A. students and employees, and eligible incoming nursing students. Pre-registration and pre-payment are required for all CPR trainings. Call the Center at (323) 343-3340 or see CPR Training for more information.

Upcoming Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers trainings take place 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.:

CPR, first aid, and AED training are available throughout the community. Contact the American Heart Association, (877) AHA-4CPR, and the American Red Cross for more information and to locate training sites. In addition, the American Heart Association has a line of e-learning programs. Visit OnlineAHA.org for more information.
AHA strongly promotes knowledge & proficiency in BLS, ACLS, & PALS and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by AHA. Any fees charged for this course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course material, do not represent income to AHA.
Free Confidential HIV Testing
(Note: The Student Health Center offers confidential HIV testing [$16 fee] Monday - Friday. Call [323] 343-3302 to schedule an appointment.)
The next free confidential HIV testing takes place 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the Student Health Center's Health Promotion and Education Center, Room 215, and is scheduled for:
- Summer '09: August 10 & 11
- Fall '09: October 26 & 27
- Winter '10: Schedule pending
- Spring '10: Schedule pending

Wellness Series
The Cal State L.A. Health and Wellness Series is sponsored by the Student Health Center, Center for Student Involvement, University-Student Union, and student fees.
Participants needing special accommodations should contact the Center for Student Involvement at least one week prior to the program of interest at (323) 343-5110.
The Wellness Series runs fall through spring quarters. Check back in September for our fall '09 schedule.
