Registration and Payment Information
Courses Offered
The Student Health Center
offers American Heart Association CPR training for current Cal State L.A.
students, faculty, and staff members. Training is also available for
incoming Cal State L.A. nursing students. Trainings are conducted in
association with the CPR Training Center (an American Heart Association
Training Center).

All trainings and healthcare provider skills testing sessions take place in
the Health Promotion and Education Center, Student Health Center, Room 215.
CPR, first aid, and AED training
are available throughout the community. Contact the
American Heart Association, (877) AHA-4CPR, and the
American Red Cross for more information and to locate training sites.
In addition, the American Heart Association has a line of personal learning
programs, CPR Anytime, available. Visit their web site for more
information.
Students are encouraged to verify their training requirements with their
academic departments and/or employers.
Registration and Payment Information:

Pre-registration is required for all CPR trainings. We
encourage you to sign-up for a desired training date as soon
as possible as space is limited and classes are typically
filled 2-4 weeks in advance.

Pre-payment at least one week in advance of
course training date is required. Failure to pay one
week prior to training date can result in loss of training
reservation. The Student Health Center is not responsible
for loss of training opportunity due to late/lack of
payment.
Courses Offered:
Heartsaver CPR:
The Heartsaver CPR
Course trains rescuers in CPR, choking relief, and use of barrier devices
for victims of all ages. It is appropriate for most lay persons who may be
first responders to an emergency situation and are required by their
employer to complete CPR training (e.g., teachers). A course completion card
is issued to those who successfully complete the course skills test.

Basic Life Support
(BLS) for
Healthcare Providers:
Basic Life Support for
Healthcare Providers teaches CPR and relief of foreign-body airway
obstruction skills for adult and pediatric victims. It includes training on
two-rescuer CPR and the use of bag-masks and automated external
defibrillators (AED). Course length is approximately 4½ hours (includes
lunch break - you must bring your own lunch - lunch is NOT
provided). Successful completion of skills testing and written examination
are required to receive a BLS Healthcare Provider Course Completion Card.
BLS Healthcare Provider Online Renewal
Course: This course
is a review of CPR skills for the healthcare provider. Healthcare providers
complete 12 mandatory checkpoints and the written exam online (www.onlineaha.org
l
$17.50). Skills testing is then conducted by appointment. Photo I.D., proof
of current Healthcare Provider certification, and the BLS
Healthcare Provider Online Renewal Course Completion Certificate are
required for skills testing. Course completion cards are issued to those who
provide appropriate documentation and successfully complete skills testing.
The skills testing fee is based on student
skill level, amount of remediation needed, and time required for testing.

BLS for
Healthcare Providers

Incoming Nursing Students: The Health Promotion and
Education Center offers the BLS for Healthcare Providers Course and
renewal skills testing (see descriptions above) for eligible incoming
nursing students. Photo
I.D. and proof of current enrollment or acceptance into the Cal State L.A.

AHA strongly
promotes knowledge & proficiency in BLS, ACLS, & PALS and has
developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these
materials in an educational course does not represent course
sponsorship by AHA. Any fees charged for this course, except for
a portion of fees needed for AHA course material, do not
represent income to AHA.
