Health Educator Bios

Joanna Gaspar, MS, MPH, Senior Health Educator, first joined the Student Health Center staff as a student assistant while completing a Master’s degree in Biology.  She then completed her Master of Public Health degree (emphasis: behavioral health sciences and health education) at the University of California, Los Angeles.  Joanna has certifications as a HIV testing counselor (County of Los Angeles, Department of Health Services, AIDS Programs) and family planning counselor (California Family Health Council).  She has also received training as a sexual assault counselor and advocate (Community Service Programs, Inc. and East Los Angeles Women’s Center).  Joanna is a CPR instructor and has received additional training in alcohol and other drug issues, dating/domestic violence, sexually transmitted infections, weight management, and other health issues. Jeri Landon, R.N., MPH, Health Educator, joined the Student Health Center staff in the Fall of 2001 after spending 11 years at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) as a Registered Nurse/Health Educator.  Jeri completed her nursing training at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing.  She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Education and her Master’s degree in Public Health at CSUN.  Jeri brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience to share with Cal State L.A. students regarding such health issues as alcohol and other drugs, domestic violence and sexual assault, HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections, reproductive health, family planning, sports medicine, and immunizations.  She is a certified college health nurse (American Nurses Credentialing Center), HIV testing counselor (County of Los Angeles, Department of Health Services, AIDS Programs) and family planning counselor (California Family Health Council).  Jeri is also a trained sexual assault and domestic violence advocate.
