Continuous
Quality Improvement
The Student
Health Center is accredited by the Accreditation
Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).
The Student Health Center's Continuous Quality
Improvement Program (CQI) is in place to assure and
monitor continuous quality in all aspects of Student
Health Center services and activities and continued
compliance to AAAHC standards.
All services provided within the SHC are reviewed, but the program is
mostly concerned with patient care issues involving students.
The CQI Committee, headed by Lian Morris, R.N., CQI
Coordinator, is comprised of seven teams:
-
Medical Risk Management: The Medical Risk Management Team’s
objective is to ensure the highest quality of professional care by
developing, reviewing and continuously improving policies and
procedures involved with medical ethics, professionalism, continuity
of care, record keeping/documentation, confidentiality of medical
records, consent forms, and communication with patients and the
University community.
-
Facility Safety:
The Facility Safety Team’s objective is to advise the SHC on the
formulation of policies and procedures related to ensuring that safe and
healthful conditions and practices are provided and followed in the SHC
and to act as a liaison between the SHC and the University's
Environmental Health and Safety Officer.
-
Continuing Medical Education: The Continuing Medical Education Team’s
objective is to provide professional education and training to SHC staff
and to encourage participation in seminars, workshops and other
educational activities.
-
Patient Satisfaction: The Patient Satisfaction Team assists
in the formulation of policies and procedures to insure that the quality
of services offered to our patients are consistent with the SHC's
statement on Patient Rights and Responsibilities. The team develops, tabulates and appropriately disseminates the SHC Patient
Satisfaction Survey results and coordinates the distribution & collection
of system-wide surveys.
-
Infection Control:
The Infection Control Team's objective is to establish and maintain a program for
identifying, preventing and documenting infection related issues in the SHC, including but not limited to, prevention methods, surveillance
techniques and ongoing education of staff.
-
Pharmacy and Therapeutics: The Pharmacy and Therapeutics Team addresses all matters relating to pharmaceuticals in the facility.
-
Clinical Team:
The Clinical Team is comprised of staff clinicians (nurse practitioners,
physician assistants, physicians) and addresses issues related to
patient care.
Members of the CQI Committee include the CQI
Coordinator, team leaders, one physician, one mid-level
practitioner, one representative from nursing, pharmacy,
x-ray, laboratory, counseling, medical records,
administration and health promotion. The Committee meets
at least six times a year and reports to the Student
Health Center Director.
The Board of Trustees of the California State
University has the responsibility for quality care at all CSU Student Health Centers and, through the Chancellor's
Office and the University President, delegates authority
and responsibility to the Student Health Center Staff and
the CQI Committee.
