Available Services
CAPS offers short-term counseling and psychotherapy srvices, emergency/crisis services, outreach, suicide and personal violence services, and referral resources. All mental health services are provided within professional, legal and ethical boundaries.

Services for Students
- Individual counseling - brief one-on-one work with a therapist on different concerns, generally 6-10 sessions per year.
- Couples counseling - couples work with a therapist addressing relationship concerns. Both partners must be CSU students.
- Support groups - professionally facilitated groups for students with similar concerns. Click on CAPS Events for the current group schedule.
- Mediation services - impartial facilitation of conflict resolution between students.
- Mental health screenings - confidential screenings on various mental health issues.
- Mental health triage - brief 15 minute sessions for students in high distress situations. Students must walk-in for appointment.
- Mental health workshops - psychoeducational classes that address specific concerns. Click on CAPS Events for the current workshop schedule.
- Referrals - linkages to various support services.
Services for Faculty and Staff
- Mental health consultation - consultative serves regarding student mental health issues are available to members of the university community. Consultation may be provided to faculty and staff who request such assistance.
- Presentations - faculty and staff may request in-class or in-program lectures, workshops, or other presentations by CAPS clinicians on various mental health topics such as stress management, depression, and communication skills.
- Safe Zone - faculty and staff may receive training to become Safe Zone Allies to increase their cultural competence with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) students. Click on the Safe Zone for more information.
Services for Parents, Spouses and Concerned Friends
- Mental health consultation - consultative serves regarding student mental health issues are available to a student's parents, spouse, concerned friends, and other agents who are assisting with student care.
- Referrals - referrals or linkages to mental health resources for the Cal State LA. student in their life.
