On-Campus Scholarship

Cal State L.A. on-campus scholarships are awarded by the Scholarship Office, academic departments, and various campus organizations.

The current scholarship application is now available. The submission deadline for new students is April 11 , 2008.

The financial aid application (FAFSA) is available year-round and should be filed as soon as possible for students who wish to be considered for both financial aid and scholarships, especially those scholarships that have financial need as a criterion. Unlike scholarships, which are based on academic credentials, financial aid is based on need. The FAFSA is available in the Center of Student Financial Aid.

Please see "Special Scholarship News" for information about the President's Scholars Program.

General On-Campus Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

  • Most CSULA scholarships require a minimum overall B (3.0) grade point average at Cal State L.A., and unconditional admission in a degree program.

List of On-Campus Scholarships by Colleges

Most of the Cal State L.A. scholarships listed here are applied for via the CSULA General Scholarship Application, available in January of each year. Successful applicants receive funding for the following Fall Quarter. This listing is valid as of the time of publication.  Only active scholarships are listed.

Most of these scholarships are endowed, which means that only interest, drawn upon principal gifts, is awarded to students. Since interest rates vary and donations are received throughout the year, it is impossible to note how much each scholarship award will be. The range for CSLA scholarships is from $100 to $5,000, with the average award being around $700. Students may receive more than one scholarship, but not all qualified students will receive awards due to insufficient funds. Only about 35-40% of qualified applicants can be awarded.

Cal State L.A. scholarships are listed by Colleges:

On-Campus Scholarship Application Procedures

A complete scholarship file includes an application (signed, with an essay) and one letter of recommendation. Current high school seniors, new transfer students and new graduate students must also submit a copy of their most recent grade transcript. We prefer that you submit all application materials together, although letters of recommendation may be sent separately. However, you must submit your application in triplicate (original and two copies). Only complete applications will be sent to committees for review.

Please note that the letter of recommendation must be completed either on our Letter of Recommendation, or the recommender must answer the form's questions on his/her own letterhead.

Some scholarships require that you show financial need. In order to do so, you must file the FAFSA, available in the Center for Student Financial Aid. Be aware that scholarships and financial aid are coordinated, and your financial need cannot be exceeded per federal law.

Special Note to International Students

International students who have enrolled at Cal State L.A. for 3 quarters and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher are encouraged to apply for CSULA scholarships. However, new international students who have not yet attended CSULA should know that there is no scholarship funding available for them. International students are expected to show proof of adequate financial resources as part of the admissions process.
