BUILDING the POWER . . .
In 2006-07, CFA-CSLA demonstrated that a powerful and united faculty can safeguard public higher education in California.
CFA vigorously and relentlessly defended the public’s interest by standing united with students and community leaders against attacks on the quality of education in the CSU.
We solidified our partnerships with other labor unions and educational advocates on behalf of our students and the communities served by the university.
United We Won
We demonstrated unprecedented unity and courage when 1,500 faculty and students marched on the Board of Trustees on November 15, 2006. This momentum resulted in a 94% strike authorization vote. vote to strike.
We won a major victory in our campaign to address ten years of declining state support for the CSU, manifesting in stagnant faculty salaries, loss of job security for lecturers and increased workloads: increases in class size and advisement responsibilities.
Our contract now addresses salary inequities, workforce stability issues, and expands maternity/paternity leaves and faculty grievance rights.
Our contract is a testament to the strength of faculty organizing, our commitment to higher education and our alliances with the labor community. It serves as a model for labor organizing across the country.
The FUTURE
We continue to engage in a historic struggle with our students to provide access to quality higher education.
Faculty working conditions are our students’ learning conditions.
Workload is the next challenge before us.
We invite you to become more active this year as we build on our achievements and momentum as we and move forward on behalf of higher education and the CSU.
We will continue to Build our Power by…
Implementing and enforcing the contract
Identifying and responding to local concerns
Growing our membership
Supporting our faculty
Advocating for students
Working collaboratively with colleagues across the campus
Having FUN !!!!!
