What is CFA?

The California Faculty Association (CFA) represents 20,000 faculty, librarians, and counselors who work at the 22 California State University campuses.  While bargaining an equitable contract is of supreme importance to faculty, CFA has a coordinated strategy that includes many other facets.

§
LEGISLATION: Faculty helped to develop ideas for a legislative agenda. Many of these suggestions found their way into legislation sponsored or supported by CFA in the California state legislature.

§         ALTERNATIVE BUDGET PROJECT: Frustrated by the “advocacy vacuum” for the CSU’s share of the California state budget, CFA has inaugurated a project that articulates a new vision for the University by creating a budget that will provide affordable, accessible and quality education.

§         ELECTORAL ACTION: CFA members participated in an organized effort to support the campaigns of pro-faculty candidates for the state legislature and in the Spring of 2001 helped to elect CFA member Professor Gloria Romero to the State Senate.

§         FACULTY RIGHTS: CFA has been pressing hard to get the CSU to deal with the large backlog of grievances and arbitration hearings on problems faced by individual faculty.

§         WINNING THE SUPPORT OF OTHERS: We have encountered broad support on campuses and in surrounding communities for CFA’s work . Students, Academic Senates, elected officials,  labor leaders and individuals from as far away as Australia have expressed their support for our efforts.
