Students and Alumni

Our services are organized below as three basic steps in the career planning process. You can either start at the beginning and go through them in order, or go directly to the step you want to learn more about.

Students who are fully matriculated and currently enrolled at Cal State LA, and Cal State LA alumni are eligible to use all career center services on a space available basis with priority given to students.  Documentation of status will be requested at time of service.

1) Know Yourself - The first step in career planning is to be sure of who you are and what you want from life, to build a career that's best for you. You should be aware of your interests, personality, aptitudes and values, and have a process for evaluating and making decisions.

  • COUNSELING - talk one-on-one with a professional to explore and put it all together. We give tests as needed to assist in that process. By appointment or walk-in.
  • CAREEREXPRESS - Focus 2 in the CareerExpress offers test assessments and other tools to gather information about your interests, values, skills, and personality and match those to careers that closely align with who you are.

  • ADDITIONAL ONLINE SOURCES - Articles and self-help on career planning and more.
