Baccalaureate Degree students will graduate when they have met all University requirements for the Degree Program in accordance with their G.E. and Major Catalog Dates, including: General Education Requirements (Lower and Upper Division), Major Program Requirements, Minor Requirements (if a Minor has been declared), Total Unit Requirements, Residency Requirements, Scholastic Requirements (GPA in G.E.'s, Major Program, and Overall), and successful completion of the WPE (Writing Proficiency Examination).  Students must file for graduation.

Graduate Degree candidates will graduate when they have met all University and Department or Division Degree Program or Credential Requirements within the allotted time frame, including: Residency Requirements, total Unit Requirements, Scholastic Requirements (GPA), and successful completion of the (WPE/GWAR, Graduate Writing Proficiency Examination).

Students should work closely with their Academic Advisers in their Department, Division, School or College Based Advisement Centers to periodically review On-line (computer) academic records in order to: 1) Make certain that they are accurate, and to make necessary corrections and updates, 2) See that Approved Petitions for Course Substitutions, Repeat Courses, etc., were in fact entered on-line and appropriate credit was given, and 3) Ensure that all transcripts, AP (Advanced Placement Credits, etc.) were received by CSLA and entered On-line. Doing so, should expedite the "Grad Check" process for both the student, the adviser, and the University.

Early in the Spring Quarter, the University holds a Graduation Fair for "one stop shopping" for Graduation related information. Students can verify the accuracy of the spelling of their name as it will appear in the Official Graduation Program, have their Graduation pictures taken, purchase their cap and gown, and obtain their guest tickets to attend the Graduation Ceremony, etc.

Some guidelines or reminders for Filing Graduation Checks are:
  • Grad Checks must be filed two quarters prior to the expected date of graduation for Undergraduate students and one quarter prior for Graduate students.  The exact "filing periods" are listed in the Quarterly Schedule of Classes.
  • Once The Preliminary Grad Check audit is completed and sent to the student, up-dated Grad Checks will not be sent to the Student until the Final Audit.
  • Adviser approved course changes must be received by the Graduation Office within the Open window Period for the Graduation Application Quarter.
  • Degree Requirements for each student will appear On-Line.  Many Advisers and College Based Advisement Centers file Grad Checks On-line which expedites the process.
  • Students should discuss Graduation issues, concerns, and problems directly with their Academic Adviser.
