7. Chancellor Office permission to exempt MSMP students from G.E. UDT requirements
The Chancellor Office has granted the
Campus permission to exempt students who are pursuing the Multiple Subject Matter Program
(MSMP) from the General Education Upper Division Theme requirement. Effective
immediately, all student who will be graduating with a MSMP are not required to take an
Upper Division Theme. This exemption refers to the ten Multiple Subject Programs:
Afro-American Studies, Child-Development-Option 11, Earth Sciences, Geography, History,
Latin American Studies, Liberal Studies, Mexican-American Studies, Philosophy, and
Physical Education. This change applies to all MSMP students regardless of when they were
admitted to CSLA. Students who have begun a Theme and have not yet completed it,
will not be required to take any additional Theme courses. However, these students
must complete the total number of units required for the degree.
This exemption applies to transfer
students as well. Transfer students who complete all of their lower
division GE prior to entering Cal State L.A., and will graduate in an option
in a major which satisfies a multiple subject matter program, will not be required to take
any additional GE courses. the 12 required units of GE residence and the GE
diversity requirement will be waived for these students.
8. Modification to the "New"
G.E. Program Requirements
IMPORTANT CHANGE IN POLICY TO THE "NEW" G.E. PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS: As a result of the Academic Senate recommendation and approval by the President, students may now choose G.E. courses in Blocks B/C/D/E within their major field of study. The Fall 1998 G.E. Policy did not allow students G.E. credit in those Blocks if the course were taken in the student's major field.
