LATE PICK
UP POLICY - Effective July 1, 2004
Appropriate and consistent arrival and pick-up times are
important for children and teachers. Arriving at a consistent time helps
to ensure a smooth transition into the classroom and helps your child
to form relationships and begin planning with other children for the day.
Your child depends on you to provide the consistency necessary to make
his/her transition to school comfortable. Children who are not here at
the beginning of the session have difficulty adjusting to routines and
participating in activities. They may also miss participating in breakfast
or lunch, and teachers who are busy serving meals cannot make time to
properly greet you and your child. Arriving during mealtime can also be
very disruptive to the class, as teachers must often stop taking care
of the children at their table in order to assist a late arrival.
Late arrivals and pick-ups from school can also interrupt your ability
to share positive moments with your child regarding their school experience.
Many children feel great pleasure in being able to tell a parent what
their plan is for the day or show projects they may be working on in class.
In addition to lost experiences with your child, late pick-ups and arrivals
can hinder effective communication between teachers and parents regarding
your child’s progress and development. Moreover, late pick-ups jeopardize
teacher/child ratios, which can result in our center being out of compliance
with our licensing agreement. And finally, teachers deserve the respect
parents show them when children are picked-up on time at the end of the
day, allowing teacher’s to go home on time to their families.
Our program has much to offer in terms of learning and social development,
but children cannot benefit fully from this when they are consistently
tardy. Therefore, we are instituting the policies below to help ensure
that arrival and pick-up is timely and not disruptive to classes.
LATE PICK UP POLICY
Penalty payment: There
is a penalty charge of $1.00 per minute, per child for children picked
up past your contract hours of either 12:00pm or 5:30pm. If you arrive
after contract hours, a late slip will be given and placed in your child’s
file. After your 3rd late slip, contract hours will be cut back 30
minutes until the end of the quarter. Unresolved tardiness may result
in termination of services.
