Reporting Telephone Repairs

A Scottel technician is on-site, available for telephone system maintenance and repair from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Most repairs are completed within a 24-hour period.

How to Make a Telephone Repair Request

  1. Dial 3-2666. This number is available 24-hours a day, 7 days a week for repair requests.
  2. Be prepared to provide the following:
    • Primary extension number of the troubled telephone.
    • An intercom number if it is a multi-line telephone.
      (Example: IC 107/22)
    • The jack number, building and room number.
    • Brief description of the trouble
(Examples: “When I lift my handset or try to use the speakerphone, there is no dial tone; the instrument is damaged; or there is interference on the line.”)

**If you are experiencing difficulty reaching an off-campus number, provide the number you dialed.
    • Contact person’s name and phone number.
(Example: “My name is C.J. and my extension is 2061. You can reach me on extension 2000.”)
    • Special instructions or other information that might help clear the trouble in a timely manner.
(Example: “I will be out of the office today. There is an alarm in my office that must be turned off before entering the room. Please call Mary on extension 3-1234 before you enter.”)

Two Important Notes!!

  • A telephone plugged into the wrong outlet may be damaged. The lines connected to each voice jack are programmed to match the telephone number and the type of instrument connected to the jack. Don’t forget, many of the jacks are programmed for data connections and not telephone instruments.

  • Telephones are not interchangeable between voice jacks. Never unplug your telephone from its jack unless instructed to do so by someone from Network and Communication Services.
