Web Guidelines

As with printed materials and products, Cal State L.A. has developed identity standards for its web pages. These are designed to provide accessibility and consistent branding of all Cal State L.A. web pages.

• Accessibility Requirements

  All web pages must adhere to the campus' standards of web accessibility. Information regarding accessibility can be found here.

  In addition, valid HTML or XHTML and CSS must be used when developing your page. Page validation can be tested here for HTML,XHTML and here for CSS. Web support can also be found here for developing your pages.

• Web Colors and Typefaces

  Cal State L.A.'s official web typefaces are Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif and Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif. These fonts are used in graphically rendered headers on web pages. Correct and consistent use of Cal State L.A.'s official colors and typefaces helps reinforce the university's identity.

  Guidelines
  

  • Use the correct RGB colors for Cal State L.A. Gold (#FFD400) and Bronze Gold (#FF9900).
  • Do not use yellow or redish orange as a substitute for the school colors.

• Web Do's and Dont's

  The following guidelines will support you in creating a visually attractive Cal State L.A. Web site that reinforces the university's identity:

  • Do not duplicate the College Home Page Layout (http://www.calstatela.edu) or make your web pages to look too similar to the College home page. Users will get confused if your web pages are not clearly identified as belonging to your department. Also, there is no support given for pages not using the pre–approved templates available for download.
  • Do not attempt to create your own logo. Use the pre-approved logo graphics.
  • Do not use the Cal State L.A. logo or University Seal repeatedly within the same web page.
  • Do not use Cal State L.A. logo or seal as watermarks.
  • Do not alter the proportions of any Cal State L.A. logos or seal.
  • Do not add bevels or any effects to any Cal State L.A. logos or seal.

• Web Templates

  All University administrative websites will be required to use the official University templates. The University web templates are available for download here.

  All non administative pages must ahdere to the University's identity guidelines including Web do's and dont's.
