Temporary Home Page for Andy Pesich
Short Autobiography (of sorts):
Welcome to my renaissance! Anyway, back in the 1970s I taught music in junior college, thereby getting published and also getting some respect. In 1979 I got laid-off, which ended much of that (1979 was a funny year). Anyway, thanks to the efforts of Jeff Benedict, a recent composition of mine, "Etude in Bb" for Saxophone Quartet got performed at CSULA (November 28, 2005) and subsequently got published by Dorn Publications of Massachusetts (Go to Dorn Saxophone Quartet page). As de rigueur, I've re-joined ASCAP. And, more compositions are in the works and some are slated to be performed soon!
So, if you want to hear the performance by the CSULA Saxophone Quartet (Jeff Benedict, director), click here for mp3. If you want to see a PDF of the first page of the score (remember that parts are included in the $15 price), click here.
Here's a May 12, 2006 performance of Bach's G Minor Fugue arranged by A. Pesich for marimba, clarinet, bass clarinet, and bass: click here for wma.
New Projects:
- A "NEW" Christmas Song (the genre is not dead). Click here for MP3. Or, click HERE for Danielle Wencl's YOUTUBE video of it. Yes, it does sound like Randy Newman, but that was intentional.
- 'Five' Inventions for Guitar Duet
- Horn arrangements for the local band Ollin
- Musical (work in progress) projected to be presented at Arena Theatre in November of 2009 (Steve Rothman liked what he heard)
Addenda:
Yup, I'm the same grass-roots guy that started and worked the Salazar Project on this campus. At this point, months later, I believe there is some residual info on it in the University Reports Archive. The Bill Bell (commercial syndicate) article is no longer available but a scan of it can be downloaded from here.
Très L.A. is back! We recently performed at the CSULA Staff Awards (June 12, 2007). We performed on October 6 at the Billy Jean King Awards fundraiser at the Pasadena Ritz-Carlton. And, we performed on October 17 for the ORSP Awards/Cocktail Party. Click here to view Stan Carstensen's photographs of us at the the BJK event...The last two ("band") are Ellen Stein's snapshots of us at the ORSP function. Ellen also sent us an electronic copy of the ORSP Oct. 2007 Omnibus which includes us. Click here. And, Check this out. Très L.A. with four extra players also performed recently as "pep band" on February 8 and 9 homecoming basketball games.
John Robilette,, concert pianist and friend of mine, told me to revel in the success of competitors and colleagues of my past. So, here is my congratuations to Ara Guzelimian, with whom I spent two years in the UCLA Madrigal Singers, on his hiring as Dean of the Julliard School of Music. And, congratuations to Jamie Horner, with whom I competed in David Raksin's film scoring class also at UCLA, on his academy award for "Titanic". And, congratuations to Steve Bartek, with whom I seem to be in all sorts of music classes at UCLA, on his work in Oingo Boingo and other projects. And, congratulations to Larry Balmagia, who lived down the hall from me at Hedrick Hall in 1971, on his work as a writer on TV shows such as "Mash". What ever happened to Alan Ashby?
