Message from the President
Dear University Community:
President Trump has signed a new executive order that imposes a 90-day ban on the issuance of new visas for citizens of six majority-Muslim nations. The order also suspends the U.S. refugee program for 120 days and limits the number of refugees that can enter the U.S. each year.
I recognize that some in our community still, for good reason, feel frustrated and uncertain about the practical implications of this executive order for themselves and for their loved ones. There should be no doubt, however, about where the University stands on this issue. Cal State LA is a diverse community, bonded by mutual respect for all people regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, or immigration status. Further, we will not support any measure that targets or casts suspicion on Muslims or others from nations included in the executive order. We reject divisiveness, xenophobia and religious bias.
Cal State LA is a welcoming and inclusive community that prizes learning, critical inquiry, and social justice. The University is home to more than 1,200 international students and many Dreamers whose presence enriches our campus. At all points, we will continue to protect the richness of our community as an essential element of the public good and our dedication to the free exchange of ideas.
We are united with others in the CSU who share our commitment. We encourage you to remain informed and engaged with current issues. Our Post-Election website provides communications, articles, links to resources, and a list of upcoming events.
