Level 2 ChargePoint Stations Throughout Campus
Level 2 EV Charging Stations at Cal State LA are serviced by ChargePoint. Drivers must register with ChargePoint or download the ChargePoint App to be able to use the stations on campus. All vehicles using the stations on campus must display or purchase a valid parking permit. There is a parking limit for charging and vehicles must hold a valid parking permit when charging. Please make sure you are aware of the cost to charge for each station level. Information on pricing is noted on signage at each station site.
Level 2 EV ports - No Charging Fee
- Parking Structure A, ground level has 3 stations with 6 ports.
- Parking Structure B, B-Level has 1 station with 2 ports.
- Parking Structure C, Blue Level has 1 station with 2 ports.
- Parking Structure E, 36 EV ports on first 3 parking levels
- Parking Lot 3 has 2 stations with 3 ports.
- Parking Lot 6 has 1 station with 2 ports.
- Parking Lot 10 has 2 stations with 4 ports.

Level 3 DCFC Fast Chargers
Parking and Transportation Services is excited to begin a new partnership with Electric Vehicle Charging Solutions (EVCS) for EV fast charging. Some of these new fast chargers will accept a direct connection to Tesla vehicles without the use of an adapter. Other stations will be equipped with a CCS and CHAdeMO option connector for charging.
Effective February 1, 2023, the price to charge at a EVCS fast Charger is $0.49 per kilowatt hour
The Fast-charging stations are located in Structure B, Level B north and Structure E, Level 1. As a reminder, all vehicles using the stations on campus must have a valid parking permit.

EV and Clean Air Vehicle Parking FAQ's

- Request a ChargePoint card be mailed to you (optional)

Once you have registered with ChargePoint and are ready to use an EV station:
- Tap to charge- Open the app and hold your phone over the reader symbol on the station
- Use the ChargePoint card- Tap your activated ChargePoint card on the card reader symbol on the station
- Contact ChargePoint Customer Service- Call 888.758.4389 to start a charging session over the phone
Vehicles exceeding the time limit for EV charging are subject to citation. Removing a charger from another vehicle is prohibited.

The mission of the campus transportation program is to provide sustainable transportation options to the campus community by reducing the number of solo-occupant vehicles arriving on campus. In an effort to reducing carbon emissions, the university welcomes a clean air environment by providing dedicated parking for electric, clean air and vanpool vehicles.
Parking Structure E has 140 dedicated parking spaces for electric, clean air and vanpool vehicles. These spaces are labeled on the pavement in the center of the parking stalls with signs posted along the forefront of these spaces.
Electric vehicles are vehicles which uses one or more electric motors for propulsion.
Clean Air vehicles are any qualified hybrid or clean-air vehicle (based on a list established by the California Air Resources Board). The Clean Air Vehicle (CAV) program is administered by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in partnership with the California Air Resources Board (ARB). Vanpools are an element of the transit system that allow groups of people to share the ride similar to a carpool, but on a larger scale with concurrent savings in fuel and vehicle operating costs. Typically a vanpool consists of 5 or more people riding together for the purpose of ridesharing.
- Download the EVCS app.
- Open the app and select "Sign-up" at the bottom of the main screen.*
- Enter your email address, full name and the password you'd like to set.
- Select "Sign Up" at the bottom of the page.
- You'll receive a verification link via email. Open the link to confirm your email address and complete your registration.
You are now all set to use the EVCS network of Level 2 and DC Fast Chargers.
*If you already signed up to any of our subscription plans, you do not need to sign up again. Simply log in using the same method that you used to sign up for the plan (email and password, or Google, Facebook or Apple sign in).
To start a charging session, follow the steps listed below:
- If you haven't already, open an account with EVCS.
- Use the EVCS app to find the charger that you'd like to use.
- Once you arrive, you may need to turn off your vehicle (depending on the vehicle make and model).
- Open the EVCS app, on the "Charging" tab select "Get Started".
- Scan the QR code located in the charging station. You may also enter the Station ID numbers located below the QR code.
- On the next screen you'll see the charging cost and you'll have the option to select or add your preferred payment method. Once you are done, select "Next".
- Connect the charger to the vehicle, making sure you are using the right connector.
- Select "Start Charging" on the EVCS app.
- Some of our chargers may require to activate the charger by pressing the "Start" button or selecting which connector you are using.

There is currently no charge for charging in a Level 2 station. Effective February 1, 2023, the DCFC fast chargers will cost $0.49 per kHw to charge.
Level 2 users need to sign-up for an account with Chargepoint. DCFC Fast chargers need to sign up for an EVCS account. Faculty and Staff can obtain a ChargePoint access card from the Commuter Services Office. Please call (323) 343-5277 for more details.
A semester permit or valid parking session must be purchased when charging a vehicle. Parking is enforced on campus 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
Short-term parking can be purchased through Pay-By-Phone or at the parking pay stations. Please make sure you enter your correct license plate number.
There is a 4-hour parking limit for Level 2 charging and a 2-hour parking limit for Level 3 charging in a 24-hour day.
Cal State LA has partnered with ChargePoint to provide Level 2 charging stations that can add 12 to 25 Range Per Hour (RPH), depending on the type of EV and its on-board charger.
Cal State LA also provides Level 3 EVCS charging stations that can deliver 100 RPH or more and can charge EVs to 80 percent in 20-30 minutes. Charging speed may depend on the type of port your EV has.
