2016 Medical Interpretation Program (MIP) Information Session Dates:
July 16

Time:  All MIP Information Sessions are held on Saturdays, from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

To attend, you must RSVP to reserve a space. To attend the MIP Orientation, please call (323) 343-4922 or submit your RSVP via email to by 12:00 p.m. on the Thursday before the orientation date.

Please include the following: 
1. Your name, phone number and email address
2. Include Medical Interpreting (MIP) in your email subject line or in your phone message 
3. State the date of the Information Session you wish to attend
Example: I wish to RSVP for the MIP Information Session on August 22. I am John Smith, 323-XXX-XXX,
Note: The Bilingual Screening Test  is required for admission to the program. It can be taken at any session preceding the Fall class start. The test is offered once a term, and is also held in Salazar Hall unless otherwise indicated. Information Sessions precede Screening tests  - you do not need to worry about registering for the Screening Test until after you have attended the Information Session. However, if you missed the most recent Information Session but want to take the next Screening Test, you may do so.
The test is held once each term.

The Bilingual Screening Test qualifies candidates for both the  Legal Interpretation and Translation Certificate Program (LIT) and the Medical Interpreting Certificate Program (MIP), but does not involve technical vocabulary from either field. The target competency is academic but general; the purpose is to gauge bilingual literacy accumulated over a lifetime, not command of any technical or linguistic niche. The test covers monolingual and bidirectional bilingual competencies (i.e., English only, Spanish only, English to Spanish and Spanish to English) in vocabulary, grammar, word usage and reading comprehension. The format for the test is 100 multiple choice questions.

RSVP:  Test candidates must pre-register no later than 12 noon on the Friday before the day of the test. The registration cost is $20. To register, call (323) 343-4900 and request registration for the LIT/MIP Bilingual Screening Test.
