The Cal State LA Forensics Squad has been active since the campus’ doors were opened in 1947. In the past 15 years, the Squad has won 5 national championships and finished in the top ten twice. Undergraduate students, working with coaches, compete at tournaments hosted by colleges and universities across the country, in individual and group performance of literature, presentation of prepared and extemporaneous speeches, as well as participation in intercollegiate debates. When you join our team, you learn lifelong skills such as self-confidence, critical thinking, writing, and public speaking. We compete year round with other universities on our way to the National Championships. Along the way, you will form relationships with people from around the country. You also earn elective units during the class while participating in valuable community service projects both on and off-campus. The Speech and Debate Team is great for people who are: competitive, opinionated, wanting to become better speakers, interested in networking with other students & potential employers, looking for an activity on campus or are simply interested in priority registration.
