The 2.66
meter diameter actively-controlled, segmented primary emulates
the primary relflector of a 2.4 meter focal length cassegrain
configuration telescope
Composed
of one fixed and six active hexagonal flat panels made from aluminum
honeycomb, each 1 meter corner to corner.
Each
active panel is supported by three actuator attachments and the
entire primary is instrumented with an ensemble of 24 inductive
position sensors, which are arranged to provide panel shape information.
