Society of Automotive Engineers, Supermileage
competition, is a unique experience for students of not only engineering and
technology disciplines, but other areas of study as well, such as business and
computer science.
The Supermileage competition is not a contest
of speed and power, but of efficiency and maximum fuel economy. Students have
the challenging task of designing a vehicle that can achieve the lowest fuel
consumption possible, while maintaining a high level of safety and
reliability.

California State University's SAE Supermileage
team began in 1998. Through some generous funding from our university and
several other independent sponsors, the vehicle's performance has steadily
increased since then. This increase in fuel economy certainly corresponds with
the increasing level of sophistication that our vehicle has been steadily
incorporating. Several recent modifications include a programmable electronic
fuel injection system, tuned exhaust system, and pneumatic rear suspension.
Currently we are developing a more advanced
engine, a composite material lightweight, aerodynamic body, and a more complex
and responsive fuel injection system.
Our team members work hard to make our goal of
winning the contest in Michigan. We are currently seeking additional funding to
make this dream a reality.

sponsors, and information on how to contact us about contributing to our
organization.
