Major: Civil Engineering
High School:Montebello High School
Expected Graduation: 2012
Brief Personal Description:It is an honor for me to be part of the board for a second year. Being part of the board last year as historian has showed me how ASCE develops a person's true character and leadership. Further, I enjoy working with other's and getting to know new people. It is just amazing how one can be so different and yet have a common bond between one another.
Looking forward to this year:ASCE has played a major role in all of our members, it has given them the opportunity to assist the community, develop new friendships, and the capability to utilize what they learned in classroom and apply it to the projects we worked on during the year. This year I look forward to increasing student awareness and community involvement. I believe these two items are what gives an organization the opportunity to reach out and present themselves, further allowing more student involvement along with learning new skills and preparing themselves for real world experience.

Vice President: Jessica Perez
Major: Civil Engineering
Focus: Structural
D.O.B.: 2/8/1987
High School: Roosevelt High School
Brief Personal Description: Hey! I’m mostly known by Jess or Jessie so call me by which ever you feel more comfortable. This 09-10 academic year I will be a senior whose focus in civil engineering is structural. Short and brief I enjoy being part of ASCE’s projects specially the Concrete Canoe. Why? Because I enjoy construction, getting my hands dirty, plus part of it is paddling and I Looove! Physical Exercise. Family, Friends, Sports, Laughter, & Candy are My LIFE!
Looking forward to this year: First and foremost, this upcoming year I will put in all I possibly can to improve CSULA’s ASCE on its already known success along with the help of rest of the board, captains, plus our members who are the future of our ASCE chapter. As an individual, I hope my involvement can contribute to an ever-lasting postive change/growth towards my character & skills (specially communication! ) both for my social and career life. Lastly, I hope to meet new faces not just because, but to help them in what I can in their academics and get them to stay involved for two reasons. One because CSULA ASCE will be hosting 2011 Conference and we need to prove ourselves that WE CAN DO IT! Secondly, because ASCE opens many opportunities, if its not of experience or job opportunities for sure friendship. With that said, Good luck to all this year, join us and be part of one of the many life experiences here at the college of Engineering at CSULA.

Brief Personal Description: I’m just another guy in this world trying to make a difference. Born and raised in East Los Angeles, I always wanted to become a positive influence to my family, friends and few peers by achieving the best things that life has to offer. A little brief history of my life after high school, I graduated from Garfield H.S. in 1998, joined the United States Marine Corps in June 1999 and served my country as a Hydraulics and Metal Structures Helicopter Mechanic for the CH-46e nicknamed the “Phrog”. I did 2 combat tours overseas in Afghanistan 2001/02 and Iraq 2005. I received an Honorable Discharge in January 2006 and started college a few weeks later. I graduated from Rio Hondo College in 2007 with an A.A. Liberal Arts in less than 2 years. Prior to attending CSULA, I was studying Geo Engineering under the Geology program in Cal State Long Beach for a year before joining Civil Engineering. I found that C.E. is much more interesting and intriguing subject compared to Geology. I look forward to joining the profession and enhancing my education as time goes on. As part of ASCE, I look forward to working with a great team and establishing some good lifelong friends.

Seismic Co-Captain: Edgar Bautista

Major: Civil Engineering
High School:James A. Garfield High School
Current Year:Senior
Expected Graduation: 2010
Brief Personal Description: Hello. Hello. This year I am happy to say, “I am finally graduating!” from civil engineering and I plan on applying to graduate school this year most likely at CSULA or somewhere else do not know yet. This year besides doing seismic design, I am doing research in environmental engineering. The research I am concentrating in is particulate matter from the exhaust of the jet turbine combustion engine to determine if there are any Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) that are carcinogenic.
Looking forward to this year:I look forward to improving CSULA ASCE Seismic Design. What I look forward to is representing the Seismic Design to show people what CSULA engineering is all about. Part of the fun that comes with the project is the research that one has to do and figure out in the designing process. I will do my best not to let anyone down and put the seismic design in par with the concrete canoe and steel bridge. I also hope to meet new members and people. If anyone needs help or just wants to talk or needs advice, just ask or say so I am here to help. I hope we get new members or members get involve this year. I know I did not get involve at first and I have regret it because when you are finish with the project and go to the competition to represent ASCE CSULA you get pride and respect other competitors for the hard work, time and effort we all put in.
