Graduation Celebration Spring 2018

Graduating in a timely manner is top priority at Cal State LA.  The NSS Academic Advisement Center supports the Cal State LA Graduation Initiative 2025 goal to increase the four and two year freshman and transfer graduation rates of Cal State LA students.

NSS professional advisors create educational plans alongside students, and provide campus resources to reach timely graduation.

  • Fall 2019the deadline to submit your signed graduation application is March 1st, 2019

What Happens if I Miss the Deadline?

You may still file a graduation application after the deadline. However, you will be charged a $25 late fee in addition to the standard $30 to file.  The total for students who file after the deadline will be $55.

Filing for Graduation: Meeting with an Advisor

Please make a 30 Minute appointment with an NSS Professional Advisor to file your graduation check.

In preparation for your graduation check appointment, it is your responsibility to:

  • Review your Academic Advisement Report on  GET prior to your appointment
  • Print and completely fill out your graduation application (please review PowerPoint provided under Resources section)

Reviewing your records, and having an understanding of the requirements you still have left is a critical step in preparation for your appointment.  This helps to facilitate an accurate and meaningful conversation with your advisor regarding your academic plan.

Filing for Graduation: Filing on Your Own utilizing Degree Planner

You may file for graduation with obtaining an advisors signature. In order to do that, you must create a plan in your Degree Planner.  Please look through the handout provided for step-by-step instructions.

Filing for Graduation: After Getting Your Graduation Check Approved

Once approved and signed by an advisor, you will:

  • Take the signed graduation application to the Cashier's office (ADM 128)
  • Pay the appropriate fees

Filing for Graduation: What if There is an Issue or I Get Denied?

Please see an NSS Professional Advisor as soon as you can!  We can work with you to figure out the issue, and next steps as necessary.  If you need to change your graduation term, please fill out a Request to Change Graduation Term, and pay the appropriate $25 Fee to the Cashier's Office (ADM 128).

Remember, registration appointments will only be assigned to continuing students (For example: if you filed for Spring 2018 graduation, you will not be able to register for any Fall 2018 coursework) so filing the grad term update form is critical.

Tips for Avoiding Last Minute Surprises in your Graduation Plans

  • Utlize your Degree Planner to create a roadmap to graduation.
  • Continuously review your CSU Academic Requirements Report at least once a semester to monitor your progress
  • Report any issues in your Academic Requirements Report to your academic advisor
  • If your academic department has approved an exception/substitution to a degree requirement, be sure that it is correctly reflected on your Academic Requirements Report. If it is not, check with your department.
  • If you have taken courses elsewhere be sure to have an official transcript sent to Cal State LA for evaluation and inclusion on your academic records as soon as possible following completion of the course.
  • Apply for graduation at least one year in advance of your anticipated graduation term. This gives you time to "correct" any problems or take needed courses.
  • Remember that the Academic Requirements Report is the official grad check document. All requirements should show as Requirement Satisfied (Green Circle with a checkmark) or that the requirement will be met by the courses in progress during your last term

History Majors

History majors must complete their graduation check with their department chair and/or faculty advisor.  NSS Professional Advisors cannot complete the graduation check.  Please visit or contact your major department to schedule or get more details:
