Shelf Maintenance

10-15 HOURS REQUIRED
Duties include responsibility for all aspects of bookstack maintenance
in a large urban university library which houses over one million books,
periodicals, and journals.
This position normally requires a strong degree of physical effort,
with a great deal of walking, bending, and lifting. The position also involves
personal interaction with patrons, who may have questions and requests
about materials location and library services.
This position is proactive. Shelvers are individually responsible for
the order, appearance and general maintenance of the areas assigned to
them. Workers may expect to have their work checked at any time. Workers
must set and maintain a regular schedule of work hours for each quarter.
Shelvers can and will competently carry out all assignments given to
them, which may include searching, mending, shifting large quantities of
materials, and assisting co-workers in other shelving areas.
Access Services will evaluate workers' performance in areas of quality
and quantity of work, trustworthiness, reliability, punctuality, responsibility,
job interest, and the ability to complete personal assignments independently
while cooperating with fellow employees and supervisors.
Performs related duties as required within the job level of responsibilities.
