curricular needs of
University faculty, and therefore have
limited circulation outside the library.

Note 1 -- There are three
categories of off-campus borrowers: members of the CSU
LA Alumni Association, Friends
of the CSU LA
Library and Mutual
Use borrowers.
Media on Course Reserve: Materials on course reserve may be used in
the library only. Faculty who need to borrow an item(s) from course
reserve should use the material in class and return it immediately after use.
Multimedia CD/DVD-ROM: Library use only. CD/DVD-ROM disks may be
used on the multimedia computers located in the Music & Media Center.
Media & Copyright: Library
media materials may be used in face-to-face classroom instruction. Many of the
documentary/educational videos in the library's collection have been purchased
with "Public Performance Rights" which allow users to show the
materials in class and to campus groups without violating copyright laws.
Videos which are designated as "Home Use Only" (Hollywood
feature-films for example) are labeled with a copyright notice. These
tapes should not be used for any non-classroom Public Performance (even
if no fee is charged). For more information, please see the American
Library Association (ALA) Fact
Sheet on Video & Copyright.
Student Borrowing of Media
Materials: The standard loan period for most media is 3 days. Some
media which are high cost and/or high use titles are restricted to 4 hour
(in-house use) only. These titles have the status "Non-Circ Media" in the library
catalog. Students who need to borrow these restricted items for use in
class-related projects may check out up to 3 items for 1 week if they have Faculty Authorization.
Use of Audio-Visual Equipment:
Audio-visual carrels
(and the group listening room) in the Music & Media
Center are available on a first-come, first-use basis and may not be reserved.
Headphones are required for all AV carrels, and may be checked-out from the
media services desk with your valid CSU LA I.D. (Golden
Eagle One Card) or library borrower's card
Checking-out and Returning Materials:
Circulation of media materials and equipment stops 15 minutes prior to
closing. All materials and equipment should be returned to the media
services desk at least 5 minutes prior to closing.
The use of the
multimedia computers is limited to: multimedia software, DVD,
and internet media only. Email, chat, and personal web-surfing are not
allowed on the multimedia computers. To use a multimedia computer, please
ask for assistance at the media services desk.
Use of equipment to view or listen to personal copies
(VHS tapes,
CDs, etc.) is permitted, however priority is given to students needing to use
library-owned media for University assignments and research. The library
is not responsible for any damage to personal items used in media center
equipment. You may use your own headphones if you prefer, but
please check-in with us at the media services desk before using equipment, so we
can keep statistics.
The group viewing room policies are: minimum number of
people required to use a group viewing room: 2; maximum number of people that may use the
room: 12; maximum time the room may be used (per group): 2 hours; reservations
are not accepted -- the rooms are available on a first-come, first-use basis;
use of the viewing/listening rooms is restricted to currently enrolled CSULA
students only (Golden Eagle ID card required) for class-related use; the rooms
are designated for viewing DVD/VHS video or audio content only -- they are not
to be used as group study or practice rooms. Students wishing to
sing, rehearse, or play an instrument should use one of the practice rooms
located in the Music Building.
The library does not lend audio-visual equipment. All AV equipment is for
use in the library only.
