Guide to Collection Development
Atlas Collection
The Library maintains a small collection of less than 200 historical and geographical atlases in a separate location on the 2nd Floor of Library North. These atlases too tall or wide to be shelved in the general book collection.

Books Collection
This is the designation given the Library's main circulating collection of over a million books. These books are shelved in Library of Congress call number order as shown below.

A - H North 2 Books that are OVERSIZED (too tall or wide) are shelved separately on special bookshelf ranges located AT THE END of regular call number ranges. There are oversized ranges ON EVERY FLOOR.
J - QE North 3
QH - T Palmer 3
U - Z Palmer 4

Electronic Resources   electronic
This is the Library's large and rapidly expanding collection of full-text online electronic books and periodicals. Find our electronic books by using the Library Catalog Advanced Search tab and making sure that Materials Type is set to eBooks. Find our full text electronic journal articles by using our Library Database page and our Find Journals, Magazines, & Newspapers page.

Juvenile Collection
The Library maintains a very small collection of juvenile books for children and young adults. This collection is located on the 4th floor of Library Palmer Wing. These books are classified in the Dewey Decimal Classification System.

Microforms Collections
The Library's collection of journals and books in microform format is in the process of being moved from Library North, A-Level to Library North, 3rd Floor.

Periodicals Collection  periodicals
This is the Library's collection of more than 4,500 print-based periodicals, and newspapers, including approximately 1,500 current subscriptions. All current and bound print periodicals are located on A-Level, Library North. Today, more than 80% of our periodicals are puchased and received in electronic format accessible through the Article Databases page and our Find Journals, Magazines, & Newspapers page.

Theses Collection
The Library maintains a complete set of all Masters thesis written by students who received their degree from CSULA. These theses are located in a special room on the B-Level of Library North and number over to 10,000 volumes.  More >
