Library Instruction

Liaison librarians provide information literacy instruction to a variety of classes at both undergraduate and graduate levels. These librarians work with the teaching faculty to develop course integrated presentations and demonstrations geared to teach students how to find and evaluate information using online and print resources available through the library’s website.

Scheduling Instruction
To request an instruction session, assistance with library–related assignments, tours of the library, or any other type of library visit, fill out our online Library Instruction Request Form. The requesting instructor should plan to attend the library lecture with the class. On the form, in the large box headed Comments, please provide information concerning your library-related assignment. Instruction is most effective when students come to their Library sessions with a topic in hand, and when teaching librarians have advanced knowledge of these assignments.

Our electronic classroom schedules fill up quickly, so in order for you to ensure that your class will be scheduled on the best day for you, schedule your session ahead of time, preferably by the end of the preceding quarter.

Workshops
Drop-in workshops on searching library databases, the library catalog, plagiarism and copyright, APA, and Google are free to students on a quarterly basis. Students can check the Library Homepage for times and availability.

Online Tutorials
These tutorials introduce and reinforce library search strategy, selecting appropriate sources, the mechanics of constructing a search, correct citation formats, and more in a friendly, and interactive fashion. They are Available to both on- and off-campus students. Distance educators may want to consider linking to the Library’s Web tutorials.

Orientation Tours
Students are given a physical tour of the University Library and learn about the services available to them.
