PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Media, Communications & Arts Librarian, California State University, Los Angeles 
9/00 -
Media Librarian for the CSULA University Library; manage daily operations of the library's new "Music & Media Center": supervise the MMC library assistant; develop departmental policies & procedures; assist at the media services desk; maintain a website for the center; etc.  Provide service at the library's main reference desk; conduct bibliographic instruction sessions; serve as the library liaison to the departments of Art, Communication Studies, Music, and Theatre Arts and Dance. Chaired the Media Services Task Force; serve as Media Services Function Group Leader.  Task force memberships have included: Knowledge Resources; Customer Service; User Services; Library Web Team.  Served as interim Head of Collection Development and chaired the Knowledge Resources Task Force for a year. Active member of the library web team and was instrumental in the creation of two online Information Literacy Tutorials.

Part of the system-wide reference staff--responsibilities include: working at the reference desks of Fenwick and Johnson Center libraries; planning and conducting library instruction classes; serving as departmental liaison to the Film and Media Studies program; providing faculty/staff/students with information/guidance regarding the library's media collections, equipment, and reserves procedures; participating in collection development teams for the Johnson Center Library; monitoring media materials budget and providing media and multimedia collection development for the University Libraries.

Supervised 2 Reference/Instruction librarians and 12 classified staff in Circulation and Reference; coordinated Reference, Instruction, and Collection Development activities; managed daily operations of this highly electronic library focused on supporting the undergraduate curriculum, providing system-wide media collections/services; print/media reserves; library instruction and reference; and online information resources (Internet access, networked CD-ROM's, online catalog, etc).

Media Services Librarian, George Mason University Libraries 8/89 - 10/95
Managed the University Libraries' Media Services Units: Audio-Visual Resource Center (Fenwick library) and campus-wide AV Distribution (equipment delivery and repair, AV production, technical support). Planned, recommended, and implemented departmental policies and procedures; trained, supervised classified (2.5) and student (10-20) staff; monitored materials and equipment budgets; provided reference/consultation to faculty/staff/students; assisted liaison librarians with media collection development; coordinated AV Resource Center's move to the new Johnson Center Library.

Librarian II (Audio-Visual Services), Cumberland County Public Library and Information Center 11/87-8/89
Served as Assistant Librarian for Audio-Visual Services at the Cumberland County main library. Provided media reference assistance, cataloged and processed videotapes and films (OCLC) and audio recordings (ANSCR classification), assisted in departmental conversion to an online catalog and circulation system, maintained an automated media management system, and coordinated film series programs for the community.

Technology: Innovative Interfaces library automation system; Endeavor library automation system; NOTIS integrated library system; networked and stand-alone CD-ROM applications; Windows and Macintosh OS; Web design, including knowledge of HTML code, javascript, WYSIWYG editors, etc.;  online course management systems (WebCT);  Graphic/multimedia programs: Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Camtasia Studio, etc;  Bibliographic Database Software (Procite); Automated Media Management Systems.  Familiar with a variety of Media Hardware/Software, including: Windows/MAC Multimedia; video and data projection systems; audio and video recording equipment (analog & digital); video cameras, editing, production equipment;  etc.
