Program Description

Pan African Studies at CSLA is an interdisciplinary course of study that investigates the history, culture, political economics, literature, arts and languages of peoples of African descent and their contribution to world civilization.  The Pan African Studies Department offers an undergraduate degree in Afro American Studies.  Two options are offered which focus on different geographical regions of the world.  The Department also offers a minor with options in Afro-American Political Economy and Development or Pan African Fine Arts.

The collection is maintained at the level needed to support undergraduate instruction.  The interdisciplinary nature of PAS dictates that the collection is also augmented by the selection of materials in a cross section of disciplines.  Where appropriate, the collection responds to new and emerging areas of scholarly inquiry.

Chronological Coverage

Materials are collected on 18th to 21tst century United States and Caribbean history and on the culture and resources of ancient, medieval and modern Africa.

Geographical Coverage

The collection emphasizes the United States, Africa, and the Caribbean basin.

Other Resources

The curriculum is heavily supported by resources from government publications, English, political science, geography, music, economics, and art.  Some resources may be made available via the Internet, document delivery, and interlibrary loan.
