Program Description

The Department of History provides opportunities to undergraduates to study the development and interaction of the world’s cultures. The undergraduate program is designed to provide an understanding of societal development in all aspects of experience and environment and of the relevance of the past to the present.  In addition to a broad curriculum in local, national, and world history, the Department offers a wide variety of special topic courses. The Department offers minors in labor and working class studies, and religious studies, and participates in the interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts degree program in social science. The Master of Arts degree in History is also offered

Chronological Coverage

United States: Pre-1876 and post Civil War to present materials are collected with a concentration on colonial period (pre-1776) material including primary sources for the next two fiscal years in the hope to fill in the collection gap for this period. Historical survey material is collected for Europe, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Geographical Coverage

Emphasis is on the United States. Materials on Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East are selected as required for upper division required courses and 500 level courses.

Other Resources

Students are also supported by materials selected by other subjects, mainly in the areas of labor, gender, and law/justice, ethnic studies and political science.
