Teresa Portilla Omidsalar Program Description The Division of Curriculum and Instruction in the Charter College of Education offers several programs leading to credentials for multiple and single subject, CLAD/BCLAD and reading specialist authorizations. The Division also has programs leading to the Master of Arts Degree in Education with options in: Elementary Teaching, Middle and Secondary Curriculum and Instruction, and in Reading. Master of Arts degree candidates in the Elementary Teaching option have the opportunity to specialize in one of the following areas of concentration: (1) bilingual/multicultural education in the elementary classroom, (2) curriculum and instruction in the urban elementary school, (3) early childhood education, (4) mathematics education, (5) reading and language arts in the classroom, and (6) science education. Master of Arts degree candidates in Secondary Teaching have the opportunity to complete one of the following areas of concentration: (1) reform in middle and secondary urban schools, (2) cross-cultural language and academic development, (3) content area specialization, (4) integrating critical and reflective thinking throughout the curriculum, (5) language arts/literacy, (6) mathematics/science pedagogy, and (7) instructional technology. The Master of Arts in Education with an Option in K-12 Reading can also be combined with a Reading/Language Arts Specialist Credential. The Division has a certificate program in Storytelling.

Geographical Coverage Materials are generally collected in English language and focus on practices in the U. S. and other English-speaking countries. Other Resources Students working towards degrees, certificates, and credentials in Curriculum & Instruction are also supported by materials selected by other academic divisions, departments, or programs, such as Educational Foundations and Interdivisional Studies and Special Education.
