Program Description

The Department of Communication Disorders offers a Bachelor of Arts degree (designated as a pre-professional major) and a Master of Arts degree (designated as a professional major) in the areas of Speech Language Pathology and Audiology.  Students choose one of the aforementioned programs at the master’s level.  The Bachelor of Arts in Communicative Disorders prepares students for graduate professional studies.  Completion of the graduate degree meets the requirements for licensure from the California State Board of Medical Quality Assurance and for the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech Language Hearing Association

The Communicative Disorder faculty places emphasis on current research in the field of Communication Disorders.  Serials are heavily relied upon for current material.  Therefore, an effort is made to maintain current resources in electronic and print formats.  Specialized reference tools such as handbooks and dictionaries are added to the collection as well as a very selective number of monographs.

Other Resources

The curriculum is also supported by resources acquired for psychology, nursing, and health.  Some resources may be made available via the Internet, document delivery, and interlibrary loan.
