ABOUT US:
The
Los Angeles Writing Project at Cal
State LA is affiliated with the National Writing Project and the
California Writing Project and is housed in the Charter College of
Education at Cal State LA. The Directors are Dr. Robert
Land and Dr. Carolyn Frank . We have been operating since 1999 and now have 120 Teacher
Consultants in our project.
Our Writing
Project has four major goals. The first is to improve student writing and
learning in K-College classrooms in our urban region. The second is to extend
the uses of writing in other disciplines aside from English/Language Arts
including mathematics, science, the social sciences, and the arts. Our
third goal is to continue providing an effective professional development
model, that of teachers teaching other teachers, for elementary and
secondary schools in our region. Our fourth goal is to identify,
celebrate, and enhance the professional role of successful classroom
teachers in the Los Angeles area.
To implement our
goals, we provide an intensive 4-week Summer Institute for exemplary
teachers of writing, Fall and Spring Renewals for our Fellows, Inservice
Workshops to elementary and secondary schools in our region, Saturday
Seminars on Writing Instruction at Cal State LA, Coaching Sessions with
Writing Workshop teachers, a Young Writers' Camp for the summer, and
Teacher Research Committees.
