All Cal State LA employees have a shared responsibility to secure campus information assets containing protected Level 1 and Level 2 data. To promote information security awareness, Information Technology Services (ITS) provides users with a central location for information security training. For additional resources, visit the IT Security website.
The CSU Chancellor’s Office offers online security awareness training that provides steps employees can take to help maintain the security and confidentiality of private information. The Data Security & Privacy course takes approximately one hour to complete and can be taken on any computer with Internet access. If you are unable to devote one hour at one time, you can stop the training and return later to pick up where you left off.
To access the course, visit the Skillport login page, select Los Angeles from the Campus list, log in to Skillport using your MyCalStateLA ID account, click View My Plan, make sure the Assigned Learning tab is selected, and then click Launch below the Data Security & Privacy course.
TIP: When you launch a Skillport course, it opens in a new window. If you do not see the course navigation buttons (Back and Next) at the bottom of the page, maximize the window, and if needed, press Ctrl + Minus Sign (PC) or Command + Minus Sign (Mac) to zoom out.
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. All Cal State LA employees, student assistants, graduate assistants, vendors and consultants who have, or potentially may have, contact with student education records must comply with this law. These individuals are required to successfully complete the online FERPA tutorial and test every two years.
Lynda.com offers several online courses on information security. Training is available 24/7 at lynda.calstatela.edu and can be accessed by Cal State LA students, faculty and staff with a MyCalStateLA ID account.
